MOUVEMENT RÉFORMATEUR

Party Leader: Georges-Louis Bouchez

MR is the oldest party on the European continent. Founded in 1846, it is a French-speaking right-wing and center-right party, born out of the coalition of several parties. Belgium's current Prime Minister Alexander De Croo is a member of the party, as well as his predecessor Sophie Wilmès.

The political, economic, social and cultural project of the party is genuinely humanist, based on freedom and democracy, favouring the general interest. The party believes that the tremendous potential of ideas which constitutes the DNA of liberal democracy must not remain an abstraction: it is a force for transforming society, aiming concretely to reduce poverty, insecurity, suffering, inequality. MR's view of liberalism is to place the human being at the centre of all political action, and to assert and defend the rights of each individual against pressure from organized groups.

OPEN VLAAMSE LIBERALEN EN DEMOCRATEN

Party Leader: Eva De Bleeker

Open VLD is the only flemish liberal party in Belgium. Alongside its Francophone sister party MR, it is also the heir of the Liberal Party that was founded on 16 June 1846, the first modern political party in Belgium. Open VLD promotes an inclusive, democratic society and a market economy which allows citizens to lead prosperous lives and protects those who suffer from hardship. Open VLD is a staunchly pro-European party that wants the EU to play a prominent role in a multilateral world where peace must be actively pursued.
